Beta Unit Spring 2011

www.Betaunit.com

“Beta Unit is an independent clothing label based in Encinitas, California. Focused on wearability, unconventional functionality, and engineering the perfect fit.”

As some of you may or may not know, the associates here at Phoenicia were in Las Vegas last week for market. We were privileged to view some of the freshest most forward designs in contemporary fashion. It is always incredible to see our favorite designers every six months, as they continue to push the envelope of casual menswear. We wanted to show you some of what we think are the best looks coming for spring 2011 (trust it’s not that far away.) Also, we will be getting fall/winter drops from B:Scott, Beta Unit, Wrath Arcane, Fremont, Naked and Famous, Hixsept, and Cash Crop. Be sure to stay up to date as all of our last season is on sale and will be available for purchase online this week.

Our friends over at Grand Scheme have been cooking up some fresh gear for the end of 2010.  Continuing with their collaborations, they have enlisted New York photographer Mike Schrieber for a set of tees.  As well as handled some great original cut and sew pieces, alongside a new run of five panel hats. We are super stoked for this season so be sure to check out the look book below as well as follow GS on twitter.com/Grandscheme1

Ok, so, this one doesn’t really need an explanation other than the internet has a way of making negative events into pop songs. How does this work? I’m not sure, but I have been listening to this song over and over again for twelve hours straight. I hope you find as much amusement as I do, happy Sunday.

RIME for Dolby Digital

“A few months back I was hired by Dolby to paint a piece on video in a rundown section of Los Angeles. For this piece I attempted to create something inspired by an excerpt from a 1951 documentary, on the process and philosophy of Jackson Pollock. A lot of what Pollock says in the following clip is relatable to my experiences with free-styling graffiti pieces. Pollock talks about the comfort and expressive feeling he gets when working large and loose. This way of approaching work has been something that I have focused on in the past 15 years of my 20 year career as a writer.”

You may not be familiar with the spray paint company Ironlak, but I assure you after a couple of minutes watching you will fully understand what they are about. A close associate of ours has recently opened up an online store under the moniker Read The Label Supply and he of course is carrying the best in the game for paint supplies. All in one shop with publications from Gingko Press, alongside KRINK markers, and array of tees and extras. We are stoked to see RTL rise up as one of the leading suppliers for an “Actively Creative” lifestyle.

“Lot of people, you know what I’m sayin, they be gettin misinformed
thinkin everything is everything, that you could just get yourself
a little deal, whatever, youknowhatI’msayin you gonna get on you
gonna get rich. And all these labels be trying to lure us in like
spiders, into the web, knowhatI’msaying. So sometimes people gotta
…come out and speak up, and let people understand, that you know you
gotta read the label you gotta read the label if you don’t read the
label you might get poisoned…” -RZA (LABELS)
