We have all heard the saying “It’s not what happens, it’s how we react that matters.” Sometimes shit happens. In which case we here at Phoenicia Association decide to clean up and dust off our dancing shoes. Which is exactly what we will be doing at Quincy’s on April 10th starting 10pm. Live performances by The Insects, ISSA, Pickster One, Djentrification, Jawa, and opening dj set by yours truly for PA. This one will be massive due to the excellent sound system provided by “The Q” himself along with a wide variety of adult beverages. Live art by the extremely talented Dumperfoo and it is only $3 dollars to party. Be sure to stop by and show support for you local movements, art, music, culture, awareness all in one sexy night.

The weekends are a great reminder that there is a lot of work to do, even though this may seem like the opposite effect of it’s intentions. As you all know we continue to stay busy bringing in spring product, and expanding our selection. While taking a break from the day to day basics I sat down to explore one of my favorite websites, VBS.tv which is an extension of Vice Magazine. I was intrigued with a segment entitled “Toxic: Garbage Island.” This piece explored what was considered to be an “urban myth” about a giant island the size of Texas made of trash floating in the middle of the pacific ocean. At first the idea of seeing such a massive conglomerate of the worlds excess strung together across the vast ocean was very interesting. I felt as though I could some how comprehend the scale considering I had been to plenty of dumps on mainland, and just figured ignorantly that it would be the same. What I learned, along with the team of young journalists, was far worse than I could have ever imagined. The detriment we have put on our worlds oceans due to the use of plastic is unfathomable, this three part series helps to shed some light on that growing problem.

Recently our friend and associate Greg Gainor shot some test footage for an upcoming fixed gear edit we are working on. This is a very rough cut just to showcase the potential of the project, as we are still gathering footage.

PECULIAR ELECTRONIC ROCKER RELEASES ANTICIPATED DEBUT ALBUM
March 9, 2010 (Phoenix, Arizona) — The electronic rock debut “Albatross” from producer/singer/songwriter Jonathan Sakas will be available at JonathanSakas.com, online through retailers like iTunes, and at Arizona stores like Hoodlums or Stinkweeds starting March 30th. In addition to being self released and promoted, “Albatross” was written, performed, and produced entirely by the artist, giving the ten songs an intriguing sound that has been propelling a rapidly expanding fan base and critics into pop culture pandemonium.
Jonathan Sakas is an artist who takes risks and sticks out from the crowd, the type of musician you do not want to miss. He has enough potential to be a breakout star of 2010, so it is no surprise he delivers consistently throughout the eclectic “Albatross”. The record consists of ten new songs that are eccentric yet familiar, pulsating with futuristic synthesizers, superb sequencing, and dark arrangements that create a captivating soundscape. Arizona favorite Larry Elyea (Jimmy Eat World, A Life of Science) recorded, mixed, and mastered the project, yielding an exciting sound that has everyone lining up to get their own copy of “Albatross” on March 30th, 2010.
