Phoenicia Association is proud to announce we will be stocking fresh, local, legit…Dearly Departed

“Influenced by the ebb and flow of everyday life, the name Dearly Departed is somewhat ironic. A modern day relic, the brand is a blend of contradictions: Edgy yet timeless, exclusive yet accessible, and inviting yet sceneless.

“While others compete, Dearly Departed stays cool and nonchalant, forging ahead to quietly CREATE. Simply Complex, Vaguely Detailed: Honor the Dearly Departed.”

Established in 2008, and with a logo design by Benny Gold, “the story behind Dearly Departed is a common tale: Bored by a lifeless environment consisting of strip malls and tract housing, two average guys sought to create something new and exciting.

In a market full of fanfare and pandemonium, founders Sean Johnson and Eric Olson welcomed the challenge of being tiny fish in an over-saturated pond.

“And staring in the ugly face of adversity, the pair said fuck it, and dove in head first.”

They have been showcased at highsnobiety and have seen write ups at ctothejl, c’est la vie, and black scale.

Be sure to stay connected with the guys at DD through birds or through blogs.

easy.

Finally!

The wood floors are done….but not without serious backaches and knee problems, of course. What would this business entity be worth without the “sweat equity”?

I will say this, though: The phrase “blood, sweat, and tears” has taken on a whole new meaning. There’s nothing like cutting your fingers open on planks of wood while crying because you got sweat in your eye.

On the upswing of things, we have confirmation on our international orders…..and two more brands to share with you.

First up is Cleveland-based Wrath Arcane:

“We’re tired of ‘BIG LABELS’ (clothing companies, oil companies, governments, etc.) having so much influence on the ways that people live their lives. WRATH ARCANE taken literally means ’secret anger,’ or ‘forgotten rage.’

“To us, it means that people seem to have forgotten the fact that changing their environment for the better will change their lives for the better.”

“We design clothes that both embody this idea and also demonstrate our minimalist approach to contemporary streetwear. We want our customers to feel that they are buying more than just a trendy piece of sportswear. We never want a model to sell our line. That’s why we hide their faces. Too many brands are 90% model, 10% clothing…..and 0% about making our industry better.”

Phoenicia Association will be doing a limited run of t-shirts as well. We will be using local printer Ghosticorn and printing on tees from the company Continental Clothing.

“Radical innovation often originates from small- to medium-sized businesses. Continental Clothing has continually innovated within its industry sector, forcing change by dominant brands in a multi-billion dollar industry.

“Now Continental Clothing has created an opportunity to force positive change in business ethics and environmental practices by working alongside earth positive to demonstrate that sustainable products and business practices can confer competitive advantage, success, and profitability.”

We will be printing on their organic bamboo jersey. Naturally sustainable bamboo is rapidly emerging into the fashion world. Fabric woven from bamboo yarn is light, almost translucent, and softer than cotton. It has a natural quality that feels like silk, but has the advantage of being machine-washable. This natural fiber is hypoallergenic, absorbent, and fast-drying.

There are a few more labels we’ll be revealing over the next week, so stay posted….locked in and locked on. Easy.

Yesssssss….progress charges on, approaching two weeks out.

Basically, at this point our hands have been worn to the bone by highly toxic paint stripper. Amongst the blood sweat and tears that is going into this process of opening up a retail store, there has been one thing that helps us fight thru the pain….

DUBSTEP.

For those of you unfamiliar with the genre, I have nothing but the sincerest apologies for not exposing you sooner.

Those in the know will find that Caspa, one of the premier DJs in the scene, has just released an “essential mix” for BBC radio.

This “Dubstep Don” provides two hours of some of the best genre-defining cuts of the past few years.

Plus, for all the real heads out there, you will enjoy the choice drop at about an hour into it.

I highly recomend downloading this beast and getting some grime in your life.

The best part of this relase is that it comes in time to devour every second of it just before road tripping to LA in order to watch him spin it all live at SMOG sessions September 19.

Easy.

Peace to the selectah…….rinse it out!!!

Well, kids…..woke up this morning with a box of five thousand flyers staring me down and nine hundred square feet of wood flooring needing to be picked up and installed. Not too mention that it appears I have my first gray/white hair, which is of course directly related to this whole Phoenicia Association thing.

With our opening date closing in on less than twenty days away, more and more piles up, while in turn other tasks move to the “completed” side and lighten the load.

One of those recently completed tasks was locking in inventory for our first run. Jeff and I are super stoked about the lines we were able to connect with for our opening and are pleased to give you a sneak peek at two of the lines we will be offering August 7th.

Up first is the brand Hixsept.

“Hixsept was born in 1999 from a fusion of the ideas of two French graffiti writters: HÎx and Hept.

Forerunners of the process consisting of adapting graffiti related items to clothes, they constantly try to mix art, graphic design and clothing. The brand itself always willing to stay on the side. One course of action: create and show.

The artistic environment created around Hixsept makes it a brand with attitude, a graphical activist through urban art.”

Second is another French brand, April77, who say: “Our clothing is music and music lives in our clothing.”

April 77 is a brand as well as a music label, which interestingly enough, produces excellent clothes and houses some listen-worthy independent artists.

Direct from Paris, April 77 evokes the spirit of old-school rock and roll in an East Village sort of way, adding a touch of European chicness.

This is your first taste of what’s to come from Phoenicia Association. We have finally set a date for our grand opening and the final touches on the space are taking shape.

Of course, we wouldn’t want to divulge too much information at once, but in the following weeks the associates over here will be updating content daily.

Stay posted for information on the lines we will be carrying, DJ’s spinning at the opening….and of course videos, photos, music, and whatever else we can find that inspires us (including you).

In the meantime, there seems to be a lot of questions surrounding Phoenicia Association and what exactly “it” is…

  1. We are a men’s apparel boutique located in the heart of Roosevelt Row.
  2. We are ONLY carrying menswear. Sorry ladies, but it’s about time the boys got their swag up.
  3. We are stocking brands spanning across the United States, as well as Japan and Paris.
  4. We are also an art gallery and commision local artists. Send portfolios to: info@wearephoenicia.com
  5. We are announcing more details soon, so stay tuned…

We Are Phoenicia Association.
