Recently stumbled across this new video/song from ESKMO entitled “Cloudlight” and it immediately caught my attention. I am always impressed with his use of “found sounds” mixed with heavy bass weight, and this track is no exception. Rolling in deep he colorfully decorates the aural space with bits of noise found from everyday life, which brings a tremendous amount of natural warmth. These sounds mixed with an almost tribal march of minimal percussion and thick low end, make for an ethereal ride. Check out the video below and be sure to download the track “Come Back” from his latest release on Ninja Tune records.

This is my first, proper DJ mix-tape. It’s been both a long time coming and in the making (I was mapping it out as far back as June of last year…) and I can’t tell you what a huge weight off my shoulders it is to have it done and out there. It’s something I needed to do. Now I can move on to the next one, and the next one, etc.

I’m a huge sucker for concept albums. It is definitely a love letter or ode, whatever you want to call it. I’ve always loved that quote from High Fidelity: “What came first, the music or the misery? People worry about kids playing with guns, or watching violent videos, that some sort of culture of violence will take them over. Nobody worries about kids listening to thousands, literally thousands of songs about heartbreak, rejection, pain, misery and loss. Did I listen to pop music because I was miserable? Or was I miserable because I listened to pop music?”

It doesn’t matter where it’s from, what language it is in, or what style of music…there’s a reason the majority of the songs in the world are about love, desire, cheating, breakups, and heartbreak. These are some of the most universal emotions and experience in our lives. It’s funny, because when you go through something like a breakup, your heart is hurting, and you’re very much in that place, you’d think the last thing you’d want to hear is anything from The Cure, or “Ooh Baby Baby” by Smokey Robinson & The Miracles. You can’t help it, though. This ends up being ALL you want to listen to, because it’s mirroring/echoing what you’re feeling inside, and maybe saying the things you can’t, or don’t want to. Music is therapy. My therapy.

“yo! I hope you guys are well. It’s been a while since I’ve put anything out (last thing was the “Murderer” collab with Diplo) so I’ve decided to give this new track out to a handful of blogs that have posted my stuff before, and who I follow myself. The track is called ‘TO BE’ and it is one of my new tracks featured on a new mix that I’ve just done for Mad Decent, which will be going up on their site sometime next week.” – JAYOU

PECULIAR ELECTRONIC ROCKER RELEASES ANTICIPATED DEBUT ALBUM

March 9, 2010 (Phoenix, Arizona) — The electronic rock debut “Albatross” from producer/singer/songwriter Jonathan Sakas will be available at JonathanSakas.com, online through retailers like iTunes, and at Arizona stores like Hoodlums or Stinkweeds starting March 30th.  In addition to being self released and promoted, “Albatross” was written, performed, and produced entirely by the artist, giving the ten songs an intriguing sound that has been propelling a rapidly expanding fan base and critics into pop culture pandemonium.

Jonathan Sakas is an artist who takes risks and sticks out from the crowd, the type of musician you do not want to miss.  He has enough potential to be a breakout star of 2010, so it is no surprise he delivers consistently throughout the eclectic “Albatross”.  The record consists of ten new songs that are eccentric yet familiar, pulsating with futuristic synthesizers, superb sequencing, and dark arrangements that create a captivating soundscape.  Arizona favorite Larry Elyea (Jimmy Eat World, A Life of Science) recorded, mixed, and mastered the project, yielding an exciting sound that has everyone lining up to get their own copy of “Albatross” on March 30th, 2010.
